The second drop of the Williams Sonoma Home Catalog has reached its customers and Studio Marcus Hay Inc was proud to be included in the second cover, having Art Directed this in Los Angeles earlier this year. Taking a different cap, Studio Marcus Hay Inc styled the other pages, working with Art Director John Costello and for the first time Paul Raeside which was a great pleasure with some new additional pages to the second drop.

We created these sets in the Williams Sonoma studio at Brisbane, the spreads included lighting, pillows, barstools and chairs and a desk shot and an art shot.

Many trips back and forth from NY to SF to LA and back NY helped produce this outdoor section for Williams Sonoma, Art Directed by Studio Marcus Hay earlier this year. Shooting in a studio in SF and in 3 different locations in LA and Malibu, Marcus worked once again with the wonderful Photographer Anson Smart and directed an amazing team including the very talented Props Stylists JC Garcia Lavin and Carin Scheve.

In the height of Winter in NY, Marcus was happy to escape the winter in NY and having just come back from an extended trip to Australia, the warmer weather continued with Marcus flying down to scout the locations based in La Canada and Pasadena in LA and Malibu.

After looking a number of locations, the three chosen consisted of an old LA 1920’s mansion and a more residential property that resembled The Hampton’s and an ocean surrounded property in Malibu with heavenly views. Channeling a touch of Hollywood Glam, Marcus’s favorite location was by far the Black and White themed property with a mini Versailles garden.

We were thrilled to make the cover after numerous cover tries and to be part of creating inspiring Summer images for Williams Sonoma Home Summer catalog.

With the Labor Day weekend, Here in the US it is unofficially the last days of Summer and it's with a touch of sadness we leave Summer, 2014 for a cooler but equally as fun Fall. Here at Studio Marcus Hay we had the pleasure of working with Photographer Anna Williams on summer tomatoes for Williams Sonoma and boy have they been great this Summer, We have had some amazing tomato dishes this season.

We hope you all had a great Summer, 2014 and here's to a wonderful Fall.

Not many of you may know this but I love tomatoes, everything about them! One of my most favorite smells in the world is the smell of tomato vines and leaves. I love that earthy tangy fragrance that is like no other.

When Williams Sonoma asked me to style the Summer Tomato program for their latest catalog, I was very happy. Not only did I get to work with the ever amazing Photographer Anna Williams but we spent close to a week and half photographing all varieties of tomatoes possible an believe you me, there is a lot of them. We got to shoot on a very inspiring property in San Francisco that looked straight out of Tuscany

The food was styled by the wonderful Sandra Cook You have to agree those tarts looked amazing!

Hope you enjoy the shots, We had a great time creating them.

Summer, 2014

Memorial Day weekend usually marks the first weekend of Summer as everybody kicks back with a beer and some BBQ. This year in NYC as we spend the weekend in a very quiet Manhattan as everybody else seems to have escaped elsewhere, it somehow does not seem exactly like Summer with overcast skies and a muggy temperature, however you can feel Summer is around the corner and there is a general vibe of excitement in the air that the season brings.

At Studio Marcus Hay we wish all in the Northern Hemisphere a wonderful Summer season, We are looking forward to some time on the West Coast of America and sometime in the Windy City of Chicago, and hopefully some where in between in some mystery location, hopefully with a cocktail by the pool! See you there!

This month's Williams Sonoma Catalog out for Summer features work Studio Marcus Hay shot over a couple of months in San Francisco and The Bay Area. It was great to get into a Summer vibe ahead of time and being on the West Coast certainly helped that!

This time I got to work with the dream team once again Photographer Con Poulos and Food Stylist Alison Attenbourough. We had a wonderful time working both in the Wiliams Sonoma Studio and also on location in Bolinas, One of my favorite parts of the world where we got to shoot with the most amazing ocean/ beach view behind us.

This Summer at Williams Sonoma is all about spicing it up, We got to work with chili's and also lots of margaritas, you can't go wrong with that combo. Using lot's of zinc surfaces and zinc props, we created an outdoor bar scene perched right on the cliff.

Also included here is an extra knife shot, shot by the wonderful Christine Schidhofer and Food Styled by the very talented Mr George Dolese. This on Studio Marcus Hay styled with the team earlier on but just came out.

Imagine my excitement when I see that Williams Sonoma has used one of my shots I styled for their latest cover out now. This will be my second cover for WS. I shot these in San Francisco with the ever talented Romulo Yanes

Many of you would have seen these before featured on my blog but not in this format. Williams Sonoma has done a wonderful whole Ice cream and Popsicle story that we shot over the course of a week. Some of these images are also from their website.

Studio Marcus Hay is looking forward to heading West in the coming months for more projects with them, Stay tuned!

Back in 2012, I shot a whole range of cover options for Catalog Company and regular client Garnet Hill with Photographer Maura McEvoy. We shot so many versions in one day and managed to get 4 covers that I am aware of which featured last year, what a great surprise when they decided to use another from that collection for this Summer, it was actually one of my favorites from the series, Hopefully maybe I might see some more see the light in the coming months

Hope you like cover 5 of the series.

Sometimes it takes quite a few days when you travel for it to sink in, Even in the same country like the USA, each State can seem so different to the next. In some places it takes sooner than later to adjust but in Arizona It feels like a long long away and a very different place than my home city New York... a very different place than almost anywhere in fact! The hyper colored sunsets, the remote stillness, the eternal space.. it almost seems almost foreign, like you could almost be on the moon or even another planet!

Currently Studio Marcus Hay is on the road again, This time it is for one of my client's Design Within ReachWe are currently shooting the 2013 summer outdoor catalog. Obviously the great thing about our job is that sometimes you get to see places and things that you may otherwise never get the chance to see!  The mountain ranges, the cacti, the colors here are like nothing else on earth! It can also actually be quite dangerous here in Arizona as we are discovering, there are scorpions ready to pounce and cacti's ready to spear, We all have the wounds to prove it!

My trusty Assistants Mykl, Molly and I have been traveling the routes of Arizona looking for the most amazing finds. We are enjoying the warm change of climate and the challenges of life under the sun, Someone's gotta do it! : )

Here are snippets as I have seen them, Hope you enjoy the colors and the mood I have captured here in Arizona.
