Many trips back and forth from NY to SF to LA and back NY helped produce this outdoor section for Williams Sonoma, Art Directed by Studio Marcus Hay earlier this year. Shooting in a studio in SF and in 3 different locations in LA and Malibu, Marcus worked once again with the wonderful Photographer Anson Smart and directed an amazing team including the very talented Props Stylists JC Garcia Lavin and Carin Scheve.

In the height of Winter in NY, Marcus was happy to escape the winter in NY and having just come back from an extended trip to Australia, the warmer weather continued with Marcus flying down to scout the locations based in La Canada and Pasadena in LA and Malibu.

After looking a number of locations, the three chosen consisted of an old LA 1920’s mansion and a more residential property that resembled The Hampton’s and an ocean surrounded property in Malibu with heavenly views. Channeling a touch of Hollywood Glam, Marcus’s favorite location was by far the Black and White themed property with a mini Versailles garden.

We were thrilled to make the cover after numerous cover tries and to be part of creating inspiring Summer images for Williams Sonoma Home Summer catalog.

With an extension of their Outdoor Furniture Program for 2014, Design Within Reach have produced a Look Book on Ready Mag available for view on their website. It is a new format for them and is fun to view as you can slide through the whole book in one go. 

All of these images were produced in 2 separate Arizona trips that Studio Marcus Hay was asked to join where we styled both years, It is great to see this look book as many images shot here but not seen before are featured. 

Again, All these images are shot by the mazing DWR regular Jim Bastardo.

For another Trade Issue of the new Catalog, Studio Marcus Hay proudly received their issue today, Shot by the wonderful Jim Bastardo This very graphic cover is a favorite with it's clean lines, geometry and repetition. It is featuring the new Finn range designed by Norm Architects for DWR which is indeed a beautiful collection to work with.

Shot in Arizona last November, This is the 3rd option on a cover for Design Within Reach's outdoor program for 2014. This cover was actually shot on our first day of shooting. What many would not realize is on these shoots in AZ, there is naturally a lot of cactus wrangling involved, You can see in the background many pots of very heavy cacti that need to be potted but also constantly moved until the right position had been found for this image. My team at Studio Marcus Hay did any amazing job of handling these, not an easy job by any means!

Our theme for this cover was Biker Dude and we wanted it to subtly weave through this section of shots. The line used here is very masculine and clean lined, This house actually reflected the theme really well, The owner having an amazing collection of motorbikes and cars from the 1950's and 1960's.

I just received the new outdoor Catalog for Design Within Reach and low and behold it is an alternate cover that has been used, Studio Marcus Hay is super glad this shot got profiled, It nearly did not make it into the can at all!

We shot this shot right at the end of the day in Arizona, Having quite an aggressive shoot count, we had this set up for most of the day ready to roll. It's always nerve wracking for the Stylist when you know how much has gone into creating a shot only to not know if it will ever even be shot  after weeks of meetings and prep. It's a relatively simple shot really but we wanted to make sure we had just the right center piece and just the right mixture of DWR product in the shot.

Thankfully as the sun was going down and we were losing light, the team pulled together and thanks to Mr Bastardo, we got this beauty shot. 

The cover features the classic Emeco 111 Navy side chair, made from 111 recycled Coke Bottles, It took four years of research, design and materials testing to create this chair, which is a plastic version of the iconic 1006 Navy® Chair.

For the latest Design With Reach Catalog, Studio Marcus Hay once again headed west to Arizona to help produce the new outdoor catalog that just hit the stores.

We had an amazing time in Arizona once again with the DWR crew, With wonderful photography by Jim Bastardo, It was a pleasure to be on this project and get to enjoy the Arizona landscape once again. 

I hope you enjoy the shots, We produced many sections this time including a "glamping" section (A glam camping story) and food truck story using the actual truck from the Rocket Pizza Co.

Here at last is the next DWR Catalog that I styled back in November/ December last year. The majority of it we shot in the wonderful Arizona where we had an amazing time!
