Working with Photographer Kat Teutsch is always a pleasure and once again we got together to collaborate on another of our New York stories series. This time it was Wren Sakura that captured our attention.

The New York Stories came about due to the inspiration experienced all around us as a result of living in one of the worlds greatest cities and living amongst some very interesting people with some very interesting back stories. When witnessing someone on the street in NY or people watching in general as one does, at Studio Marcus Hay we are always fascinated with imagining someones back-story and how they got to be living in the Metropolis.

You certainly get to experience some bright and bold personalities in the city, Wren is quietly strong, here is her story.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Wren grew up there as a child before moving with her parents to Manhattan as a young teenager when her father, A Doctor was relocated for work.

Her passion for birds started at a young age when Wren went bird watching as a teenager with her parents in The Catskills who owned a cabin for weekend getaways, NY. Born on the 11th of June in 1952 to a Japanese father and an American mother from Virginia, Wren still to this day keeps the cabin in The Catskills and a studio apartment on the Lower East Side, Manhattan where she likes to further explore her passion for birds, pot plants and all things natural.

Working now at a Japanese bookstore in the city, Wren likes to spend her weekends in the country or at The Natural History Museum where she has been a member for over 45 years, even donating some of her wildlife finds such as rare birds eggs and feathers.

Wren is a Gemini, Childlike and spirited, She appears on one hand to be birdlike herself in nature but like a lot of New Yorkers she still knows how to pack a punch when she needs too. Wren does look young for her age and often gets mistaken for someone much younger than her years.

She has a weakness for Chocolate Chip cookies from City Bakery.

Hope you enjoy our lovely lady Wren and her story.
