For the U.S edition of Good Housekeeping for the same issue, Studio Marcus Hay also was asked to contribute on a Brunch Story, each type of serving suggestion had 4 different options, Hash Browns, Salad, Scones and Quiche. The approach was to be simple and graphic using slate predominantly as a background, Neutrals with a tiny hit of green.

This story was photographed once again by Con Poulos and the Food Styling was by Anne Distrude.

For U.S edition of Good Housekeeping this month, Studio Marcus Hay worked on a food feature called Sweet Charity, Inspired by your neighborhood bake sales that occur all over America, These are suggested recipes the reader can create to help out a charity. I have to say after sampling some of these, they are well worth trying out.

Food stylist Anna Disrude did an amazing job of baking all these items for the shoot, the team at Studio Marcus Hay including Sally Morris and Brooke Reid did a great job of crafting up muffin boxes (Sorry to say they did not make the cut) ribbons, tags and stacks of cookies tied with string.

It was a really cute shoot to work on and we enjoyed the simplicity and sweetness the shoot delivers, thanks to the wonderful Photography of Con Poulos

For the latest Williams Sonoma Catalog, Studio Marcus Hay flew once again West to work on the May Catalog focusing largely on Mother's Day. Working largely on the knives section, S.M.H decided to take a graphic approach. The season is Spring so Food Stylists George Dolese and Alison Attenborough worked in some beautiful Spring produce, In the mix we also got to shoot a lovely Spring Soup and other kitchen utensils.

With an extension of their Outdoor Furniture Program for 2014, Design Within Reach have produced a Look Book on Ready Mag available for view on their website. It is a new format for them and is fun to view as you can slide through the whole book in one go.

All of these images were produced in 2 separate Arizona trips that Studio Marcus Hay was asked to join where we styled both years, It is great to see this look book as many images shot here but not seen before are featured.

Again, All these images are shot by the mazing DWR regular Jim Bastardo

Easter, 2014

Photography: Studio Marcus Hay, shot onset for Williams Sonoma

From us all at Studio Marcus Hay, We all wish you all the best this week for Passover and Easter, 2014. At S.M.H we love this time of the year, with fond memories of childhood Easters back in Australia, where most Australians get 4 or 5 days off work to celebrate, if only that was the case internationally! ; )

This image is an out take of a set up I created for Williams Sonoma with Photographer Anna Williams and Food Stylist Alison Attenborough, for Williams Sonoma

Happy Passover and Easter folks!

In my latest batch of images for Williams Sonoma, We shot a Grilling section for the up and coming Spring/ Summer months. While shooting some images in the studio (These are yet to be seen in a later book) we shot a bulk of what you see here on location in Bolinas, north of San Francisco along the high way 1, The community in Bolinas is known for it's reclusive residents who tear down the road signs so people deliberately can't find their way around (Thanks goodness for GPS! ; ) It's about and hours drive from the city with no traffic and I have to tell you it's one of the most beautiful parts of the world. The coastal road to get there has so many turns that it's not for the weak of stomach.

When we got to this location Studio Marcus Hay could not believe the view from the location, as you can see from our Instagram shots, It was breathtaking. It sure beats working in an office.

Quick to work though and Marcus who has long gotten used to playing body part and hand model while also styling and directing, Like a true Australian donned on the fierce looking grilling gloves and got to work bbq'ing chicken on the very impressive looking grills for the pictures.

It was great to work with the team again, Con Poulos who photographs grills like no one else, and Alison Attenborough who whipped those chickens into shape quick smart.

We were very excited at Studio Marcus Hay last year when we were asked to work on the home of Design With Reach’s CEO John Edelman and his wife Photographer Bonnie Edelman’s house in Connecticut. We had met John and Bonnie many times before and had even shot some great poolside shots in their outdoor pool area on their property for a Summer DWR catalog. We had also used some of Bonnie’s wonderful photography that is featured on the DWR site in some catalogs and she had kindly lent us the pieces we needed to make the shot.

When we met with John and Bonnie they had requested we look at three rooms in the house; The Playroom, The Den and a Guest Bedroom. We set about working on the new schemes for the rooms and presented them. They both loved our ideas and we set about the big task of reinventing these spaces. Rising to the occasion, Bonnie and her Assistant Jenn were a great help in ordering many of our decided pieces; naturally we wanted to use as much Design Within Reach product as possible. We also had the task of weaving in existing pieces John and Bonnie owned and having recently sold their city residence there was a lot to work with.

The Playroom was totally stripped and we started from scratch. John and Bonnie regularly work on projects and felt the most secure using their trusted contractors, Don and his team did an amazing job of interpreting our designs and especially with the playroom added a whole wall of new cabinetry and amazing wall papered walls that really transformed the space. The Playroom became a space that allowed the family to come together to view TV and movies and play X-Box. John and Bonnie’s children Olivia and Oscar are growing up quick and we wanted to give them a space that reflected this, a space they could grow into as they get older.

The Den took on a sleek sexy vibe with custom made pool table and all new light fittings. Embracing the leather tan tiled floor, we wove in some of their beautifully worn Eames and Saarinen leather covered pieces and created a space that included Bonnie’s collection of horns and knick knacks, also including a new sleek dart board.

The Guest Bedroom is a relaxing luxe space that we are all sure guests will now fight to stay in, we included all new light fittings, a new wardrobe system and we hung wallpaper from Eskayel, An amazing company from Brooklyn behind the bed.

It was a great project and all came together well regardless of a few expected bumps and turns, Studio Marcus Hay loves creating spaces that people can actually live in. Having worked many years on photo shoots where at the end of the day everything gets packed back up in a truck or walls are pulled down after a set is finished, It’s nice to know that John and Bonnie and the kids can use and enjoy these rooms hopefully for some years to come.

I could not have done this job without the support and the tireless and enthusiastic work of my Assistant Molly Hartman. Thanks Molly! You are a star!

Color & Trend Forecasting/ Studio Marcus Hay

New to Studio Marcus Hay's website is a our Color & Trend Forecasting section. Using images unique to the studio, we highlight what's new in color combinations and what we see in all the places we visit on the course of our work or settings and still lives we have combined with hunted treasures and new acquisitions that help inspire us in our work. Some shots are even from our own personal projects.

It is amazing how when finding these scenes to photograph or combining objects how the colors can play off one another. At SMH we are big believers in combining unexpected colors together, this is where you get the most play and interest. Often it's in unexpected places you find these and our eyes are always peeled.

Running themes often occur also, we often see the returning of interest in certain trends, For instance with the impending embracing of Spring, In Europe recently bird motifs and florals have again made a big comeback. The clash of old and new is always interesting and many companies are running with traditional motifs in a new and vibrant way.

Pastels have been on the rise with a clever pop of color as an accent, added to give the edge needed to pull a powdery palette into a new age.

We hope you enjoy the new section as it grows in the future.
